He had over came rejections from the time he was in junior high school in the resting team. When he was rejected from the military once because he could not do the duck walk, but he overcame it once again and became a chief petty officer. He serve in the military from 1982-2002. Now a motivational speaker and an author with the bestseller book Someone Like Me: a story of triumph over CP, he is also a disability advocate.
